My once a month treat of a day out.');"> This time Grandma, Kate and I went to Hever Castle in Kent. The weather forecast was atrocious, prolonged heavy showers all day but as Grandma said "we're none of us sweet enough to melt"! So we decided to go ahead regardless. When we arrived it was drizzling so we had an early lunch - mushroom and spinach lasagne which was homemade and very nice. By the time we'd finished, the rain had dried up so off we went with our cameras. We'd gone primarily to see the rhododendrons but there were only a few of those in flower, the azaleas were out however. We all managed to get some excellent snaps for our albums. On our way out we popped into the gift shop and encountered our one complaint of the day - the prices. Hever Castle has really overpriced their stock - to the point where it is obscene. A pack of cards was £5.00, a small suede handbag (marked as 40% off) was £55.00. Needless to say, my money remained in my purse! It's a shame that these places don't realise that they will lose more sales by overpricing their stock than they will make in extra profit. I have a suspicion that the "Boleyn Girls" film might have had something to do with the price hike - certainly the entrance fees were exorbitant too - £33.00 for the three of us! Although we had an excellent potter about and the gardens were well enough maintained, there was nothing particularly exceptional about the planting or landscaping to justify the costs so we shan't go back again.
